Keep it Simple Princess Birthday Party Ideas

  • Remember that when you are having a princess party or tea party, all the little girls show up and expect a true princess party. Plan each activity with a princess theme and everyone will be thrilled.

  • Consider only inviting a maximum of 7 girls so that there are no more than 8 girls (including your little princess) total.

  • Remember that less is best at a princess party.

Princess Birthday Party Ideas for Games and Activities

Princess Birthday Party Princess birthday party games are so much fun to plan and play. When I had my princess party business, the games and activities were always the highlight of the party! Try these easy princess birthday party ideas and watch everyone participate with a smile!

Pass the Slipper (just like hot potato)- Show the girls a glass slipper, a pretty Cinderella-looking woman's shoe. This game is played just like hot potato. Play some princess music and have the girls pass the slipper to the next person. When the music stops, the person who is holding the slipper is out. Whoever is left without the slipper at the end of the game receives a prize to take home.

Pin the Slipper on Cinderella (just like pin the tail on the donkey)- Have a large picture of Cinderella. This does not have to be elaborate. Give each child a small cut-out of a glass slipper with their name on it and tape on the back. Blindfold each player with a pretty piece of satin material or pretty scarf. Whoever gets the slipper closest to Cinderella's foot is the winner. Be sure to give each person a small treat and the winner a little something extra.

Dress-Up Princess Birthday Party Ideas- This is the part that everyone loves, but it needs a lot of adult help! Allow children to dress in different princess costumes and accessories. Either use your daughter's princess dress-up clothes or have everyone come in a different dress to play in. If you do not have enough dresses for everyone, be sure to have plenty of play necklaces, tiaras, wands, etc. for everyone to play with.

Princess Spa Time- If you choose to do this activity, please do it before the dress-up time to minimize the chance of any damage to dresses and accessories, especially if you have rented them. Use this time to paint each girl's nails with quick dry fingernail polish.

Princess Photo Shoot and Parade- Have the girls sit on a staircase, in front of a fire place, or wherever you think would be a cute background. When you have taken pictures, have an adult announce that the royal princess parade is about to begin. Have the girls march in a line throughout the house. Whoever wants to, can do a royal curtsey for the adults too.

Princess Craft- Many discount stores and online stores now have fun princess foam crafts to make very inexpensively. Shindigz has a wonderful selection of these or you might want to try ebay.

Royal Princess Birthday Party Ideas for Food

The words, "tea party" say it all! Every girl who has a princess party must have a tea party too! Here are some fun princess birthday ideas for a royal birthday tea party.

Make the tea party table as elegant as you can with as little breakable stuff as possible. Simple pink paper plates and clear plastic cups and spoons look wonderful and are very functional at a tea party for little princesses. However, it is fun to have beautiful candle holders with unlit candles in them.

When you are at a loss for ideas on how to decorate the royal princess tea party table, use lots and lots of pink tulle. You can never go wrong with pink tulle.

Here are some princess birthday party ideas for food:

  • princess
  • fruit snacks
  • tea sandwiches
  • heart and flower shaped sandwiches
  • pretty dainty cookies

A nice touch is to serve all food on crystal or clear plastic serving dishes.

Princess Party Cake Ideas

When deciding what kind of cake to have at your daughter's princess party, think "frilly." Anything frilly and girly will do. Just think of what her favorite princess or girly thing is and center the theme of the cake on it. It could be just a plain white sheet cake with pink flowers and a wand and tiara stuck on top of it. Many grocery stores and discount stores have bakery departments with wonderful princess cakes. A great alternative is to just make white cupcakes with pink icing and sprinkle colored sugar on top. Very easy and so yummy! Wilton also has a wonderful Barbie dress cake pan that can easily be used to make a princess cake like the one pictured here.

Princess Party Mementos

Giving your little princess a special memento to remember her special day will be something that she will remember forever. Try some of the following princess birthday party ideas for keepsakes: Princess Birthday Party Favors

Music Box- Give her a music box and have the date and the year engraved on it. Why not give her a different one every year on her birthday. Who knows? It could be the start of a wonderful music box collection for her.

Charm Bracelet- Give her a charm bracelet with a princess charm on it. Add a charm to the bracelet on her birthday each year after that. What a story she will be able to tell when she is older and is able to pass this bracelet down to her own daughter.

Signed Picture Frame- When each girl arrives at the party, have each one of them sign their name on an a mat that would frame an 8x10 picture. Take the picture that you took during the princess photo shoot of all of the girls in their dresses and accessories and have it blown up to an 8x10. Then use this mat to frame this keepsake picture and hang it in your daughter's room for her to remember her party by.

Shadow Box Princess Display- Take another copy of this same picture and put it in a shadow box with a bunch of princess items. Make it a collage of princess items with the picture in the middle. What a beautiful picture this would make to hang on her wall in her bedroom.

Signed T-Shirt- Now days, there are so many cute and adorable princess t-shirts available, purchase one for your daughter. As each guest arrives have them sign the shirt with permanent marker. Your daughter will have a wonderful keepsake to wear and remember who was at her princess party. Be sure to sign the shirt yourself and write a message like, "Happy Birthday, my sweet girl! You are the prettiest princess I know! Love, Mommy."

Princess Party Invitation Wording and Ideas

A great princess party invitation is really very simple. Print the invitation on pretty pink paper or on princess stationary. Then roll it up like a scroll. Tie a ribbon around it and tie it into a pretty bow. Since it is a good idea to invite no more than 7 girls to your party, it would be very easy to hand deliver each invitation to your guests. Please see the birthday party invitation wording section to get some ideas of how to word your princess invitation. You can never go wrong if you begin with "Hear Ye, Hear Ye!"

Princess Traditions

Kids thrive on family traditions. It's what they will remember about their childhood when they are adults. Even though these are not princess specific, try some of these fun traditions. You could even tweak them a bit to have a princess theme.

Family Birthday Hat:
princess birthday party ideas for traditions
When my daughter turned one, we changed our birthday hat tradition a bit. Now all boys in the family wear the traditional family birthday hat and all girls wear a princess birthday hat on their birthday. Here you see our family princess birthday party hat waiting for the princess to put it on.

Family Birthday Present Spot Family Birthday Breakfast Treat- This sweet treat could be served on a beautiful crystal plate or even a princess party plate.

Princess (Prince) for the Day- When your special little princess (prince) wakes up on her birthday, declare to the entire family that she is "Princess for the Day." This means that she is treated royally by all for the day. She gets served all her meals by members of the family, she does not have to do chores, all her guests are announced to her before entering her room, and maybe she even gets to go pick out a special princess toy at her favorite store.

Begin these traditions or any others that your family comes up with, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how well these princess birthday party ideas go over in your house. In fact, I bet your kids will ask for these things year after year.
