Fun Boys Birthday Party Ideas for the "No Girls Allowed" Party!

Great boys birthday party ideas are what is needed when your 2nd grade son says, "No girls at my party, Mom!" These ideas are hard to come by. Let's face it! What are you going to do when your guests just want to run around and be boys?

You need to plan activities that are going to allow them to do just that, run and play! The following are some easy and fun boys birthday party ideas that I have used or seen that I hope will help you plan your next "no girls allowed" party.

Keep it Simple Boys Birthday Party Ideas

  • When planning activities for your party, always try to plan as little down time as possible. Always have something to do for those guests who have finished an activity early.

  • Don't take a chance of something that you love getting broken. Every time we have a party at our house, I put away things that I do not want broken. Your guests aren't going to mean to break something, they just will be excited and having fun. For example, at one of my son's parties, I had my son open gifts by our fireplace next to our newly painted wall. I forgot to put away the little rocking chair that grandpa made when my kids were little. The rocker didn't get broken, but one of our guests rocked in it so hard during the opening of the presents that he took the paint right off the wall. No big deal, but if I would have put the rocker away, we wouldn't of had to touch up the paint afterward.

  • Try and remember to state the rules of the game before you start the game. Everyone will have a lot more fun if they know what is expected of them during the game.

  • There is nothing wrong with just letting everyone play. For many years, I thought that I had to plan activity after activity, but I soon realized as my children got older that it is okay to just have one of your activities (depending on the number of guests) be just playing on the playground at your house or just playing in your son's room or toy room. This is easy and usually if you are not watching close enough during the party, you will usually find some guests trying to do this anyway.

  • Ask your son what he would like to do at his party. At our parties, it is usually my daughter who wants to do certain activities or games at her party, and it is my son who is just happy to have his friends come over and play.

Boys Birthday Party Ideas for Games and Activities

Boys love fun, being active, and solving problems or mysteries. Why not try these fun boys birthday party ideas at your next party?

Science Fun- Doing science experiments at an all boy party is always great fun! My very good friend had a mad scientist party for her son. My son came home so excited about all of the gooey things that he had made at the party. This is also a good idea, because the creations that your guests make can be taken home as part of their party favors. Don't forget to save those baby jars to put their creations in.

"X" Marks the Spot- You can never go wrong with a scavenger hunt at a boys party. Boys love to solve things and find clues. This is great fun for active boys no matter what the theme of your party is.

Fun Facts- Boys love to learn information about their favorite things like dinosaurs, cars, volcanoes, etc.

Pinatas- Having a piñata at my son's party is always his favorite thing. The bigger the better at our house! My son loves to crack it open and my daughter and I love to fill it. It works for everyone. However, this is one of those activities that you want to make sure that everyone knows the rules before you start- where to stand when you are not the one swinging, when to run for the candy, sharing with others, etc.

Running Games- Any type of running game that you want to play is always one of the great boys birthday party ideas to use. You can never go wrong with hide-and-seek or freeze tag. If you want to change it up a little, just use some props during the game.

See our birthday party game ideas page for ideas on how to do this.

Boys Birthday Party Ideas for Food

I am really not much help with boys birthday party ideas for food. My boys are very simple and pizza is usually the birthday party food of choice. This doesn't seem to change as they get older. In fact, it is now requested. However, if your son is younger and you are doing a themed party, then the best advice I have for you is to use the foods that your son likes and do your best to match it to the theme. For example, when my son was little, he did not like cake but could down doughnut holes like there was no tomorrow. So when he had a Buzz Light Year party, we had doughnut holes and called them moon rocks. Elementary age kids (boys especially) love it when you put a funny twist on something familiar to them like when they get to eat worms (hot dogs cut into strips before boiling).

Boys Birthday Party Ideas for Cakes

I don't know about your son, but the talk around our house when birthdays roll around is what kind of cake the birthday child is going to have. There are several factors that come into play for me when deciding what type of cake my son will have. I have a creative motherly budget-minded battle go on inside of me when it comes to making this decision. Ever since my boys began having birthday parties, the birthday cake has always been a source of stress for me. I started off wanting to make their cakes, but I am not a decorator. My sons never want me to make the cake, because they always want the wonderful themed cakes that we always admire at the grocery store. The problem with this is that they are usually very expensive and just don't seem to have the same taste as a homemade cake. A compromise that my kids and I both love is this: I make a basic cake and we buy the toppers that they want from the cake department at our local discount store. This way they are getting the superhero cake they want, and I get to make the homemade cake that I want to make. It works great every year and saves our family money as well. The toppers are usually no more than $5.00-$6.00.

Boys Birthday Party Ideas for Favors

Both boys and girls love to take home favors from your party. My favorite thing to do in order to save money is to plan an activity where the kids make something that can go into their treat bags. If not, then I usually look in the stores whenever I am shopping throughout the year for great deals on party favors. I do not like to give out a lot of candy so unusual inexpensive favors are usually the route I tend to take. If you are not having a themed party, then generic party favors work great. Our favorite favors to give out at my boys' parties have been dollar store kites and frisbees. The boys love this even when it is cold outside. Depending on the theme of your party, here are some other fun boys birthday party ideas for party favors: bag of marbles, water guns, sunglasses, pencils and other art supplies, cars, masks, candy coins, and/or tickets for something local like a mini train ride or a round of miniature golf. One year when my son had a Thomas the Tank party, we gave our guests a note in the shape of a train that said, "Thank you for coming to my party. Enjoy the train ride." On the note was a ticket for our local park's miniature train. Everyone loved this and it was an inexpensive treat for our party guests.

Boys Birthday Party Invitation Wording and Ideas

My boys love to go to the store and pick out their invitations. After this process, they really don't have any interest in them other than passing them out at school. I gave up trying to make their invitations a long time ago. I want to do what makes them happy for their birthdays, and they enjoy going and picking them out. So in our house at least, this is the path that I usually take. If we are having a themed party, then we usually buy invitations to match that theme. If we are just having a birthday party without any particular theme, then I let them pick out whatever invitations they would like to have. This is fun and very easy for me!

Also, depending on how many boys you are inviting, sometimes there is no need for invitations. You can just call all the moms on the phone to invite their sons.

If you do decide to make your own invitations here is a poem that you can use in the invitation:

"Come one! Come all!

It's a birthday bash

With no girls invited,

That's the facts.

We'll run. We'll play.

We'll have tons of gooey fun!

So please RSVP

And say you'll come!"
