Finding the best birthday party places to hold your next birthday party can be a difficult task, whether you live in a big city or a small town. Here are some tips and recommendations to help ease the stress of this decision.

Small Town Party Places

Finding the best party spots in a small town can be difficult, because your choices are limited. There are some questions to think about before deciding where to have your party.

1. Are there places in my town to hold a birthday party that I haven't thought of? For example, in our town we have a small 9 pin bowling alley. Nobody would ever think to have a party there, but it is cheaper to rent than most birthday party places in bigger neighboring cities. Also, the kids have so much fun learning how to 9 pin bowl instead of the regular 10 pin bowling that most are familiar with! Also bowling makes for a wonderful adult party as well!

2. How far are my guests willing to travel? If the choices in your town are so limited that you are going to have to book your party at one of the next birthday party places in a neighboring town, take into consideration just how far is too far for your guests. Inviting fewer guests and driving them yourself might be an option that solves this problem. However, you should always be up front and honest with the parents so they know exactly where you are going and what time you will be back. Always do a courtesy call to let the parents know when you make it back into town. We have done this many times with kids that my children have been friends with for a long time. When the birthday boy wants to go play Lazer tag and have a night of pizza and game playing, this means heading off to the next big city for us. This has always worked out great for us as our kids have gotten older. One time we even just invited one friend and treated his entire family to a night of fun. This was one of the best birthday parties we had and was even less expensive than a traditional party. We had a great day of fellowship and family fun!

Big City Party Places

Finding the best birthday party places in a big city can be tricky too. In this situation, you have the opposite problem- too many choices! Here are some things to think about.

1. Where have my friends had great birthday parties? Word of mouth is a great way to find the best birthday party places in your town. Sometimes in larger cities there are so many choices that we really don't know which ones are the best for our money. For me, I usually go with places that I know well or that my friends know well. There is nothing worse than paying a lot of money to have your child's birthday at a place that turns out to be less than desirable.

2. Usually in bigger towns or cities there are neighborhood parks that make great places to hold a party. Usually parks such as these have a fee to reserve the picnic area. Just call in advance to find out what the policy is to reserve an area for your party.

3. Take note of the less obvious. Most bigger towns have a local YMCA or two. Your local YMCA is one of the best birthday party places to have a party, at least ours is. We've even been to winter swim birthday parties at our YMCA. What fun the kids had swimming in a warm pool when it was freezing outside!
