Baseball Birthday Party Ideas

Baseball Party

Do you have a little sports fan that wants a baseball birthday party? It can be difficult to plan such a party, because it is such a simple theme. However, the possibilities are endless and easy. Use some of the following baseball party ideas for a party that is a sure hit with friends.

Everything You Need for a Perfect Baseball Party:

Keep it Simple Baseball Party Ideas

Baseball Party Ideas
  • Remember when planning that a baseball birthday party is appropriate for all ages. Even though this theme tends to lend itself to smaller children, 3rd-5th graders will also enjoy this type of party if the activities are adapted appropriately.

  • When planning activities, focus on the "ball" part of this theme and you will have no trouble thinking of things to do.

  • If your baseball birthday party will be a toddler birthday party , remember to keep your activities short and simple. The attention span of a toddler or preschooler is not very long. The kids will have more fun and stay focused if the activities are age appropriate and simple.

  • Both girls and boys love a baseball party. Don't think that girls won't enjoy your son's party, because they will. On that same token, it can be equally as fun for a girl to have a baseball birthday party of her own. If your daughter wants to have a baseball party, then let her.

Games and Activities

Baseball Game- Don't forget the obvious! You can't have a baseball birthday party without some sort of baseball game or activity. If the children are old enough, it may mean playing an actual baseball game. If the kids are young, you will want to have a different baseball activity. However, you can play a real baseball game with small children if you use those great bat and ball sets for young children. These sets are usually made out of plastic or Nerf type material.

Baseball Toss- There are many variations of this game, and it allows for much creativity. One way to play it is to have two teams of kids lined up side by side. Set big buckets in front of each team behind some sort of line. Then have a relay race to see which team can get the baseball into the bucket the most times. If you can find soft baseballs (sometimes in the baby section of Wal-Mart or Target), these tend to work better for small children. They are not heavy like real baseballs.

Baseball Throw- Baseball throw has got to be one of my favorite activities to do at a baseball birthday party. For us it is a little spin off of a pinata activity in the sense that you can raise or lower the target according to the height of the child throwing the ball. For this game, you need a baseball or softball and a a circular floaty or tube for swimming. Tie a rope around the tube. and attach it to a tree just as you would a pinata so that it is easy for you to raise and lower the tube by pulling on the rope. When it is a child's turn, give him/her the baseball and see if they can throw it into the center of the tube. If you have younger kids playing, then you will want them to stand pretty close as throwing a ball into a hole is something that they are not very good at developmentally yet. If you have older kids, then you might want to have them stand back a lot farther. The fact that the tube is not a still target and moves in the wind as it dangles is what makes this game so fun at a baseball birthday party. Be sure not to lower or raise the tube after the child has thrown the ball, that is just frustrating for the child, because there is no way for it to go in. The dangling of the tube is enough challenge for both big and small kids.

Baseball Birthday Party Food Ideas

"Take me out to the ball game!" What fun to serve traditional baseball game food at your baseball birthday party. You can even go to your local food supply store or shop online for concession stand type containers for the food like hot dog wrappers, popcorn containers, soda fountain cups, etc. Here is a list of baseball food items that will be fun to serve.

  • hot dogs
  • cracker jacks
  • peanuts
  • lemonade
  • soda

Baseball Cake Ideas

A baseball cake is such an easy and fun cake to make. There are many different types of baseball theme cakes you can buy or make, but here are my favorite.

The Baseball Cake- This cake is so simple and fun to make. First, instead of baking the cake in a traditional cake pan, bake it in a big glass bowl round bowl. Be careful to not bake it in one that is too narrow as the cake will look more like a mountain than a round baseball. When your cake is cool, remove it from the bowl and invert it onto the serving plate. Let it cool completely. Ice the cake with white icing. Then make it look like a baseball by making the red stripes by either piping them on with red icing or just by laying red string licorice on the cake.

Baseball Cake Balls- Have you heard of cake balls? They are very popular and so fun to make. After you have made and frozen the tiny cake balls, dip them in white chocolate or almond bark and let them dry. Lastly, make them look like baseballs by piping on the red lines with red icing.

Baseball Game Sheet Cake- This is my absolute favorite baseball birthday cake by far and very easy too! First, take a picture of your son or daughter in his/her baseball uniform. Make sure to have them hold there bat and pose like they are fixing to swing. If you want them to pose with their baseball glove, then be sure your child is standing like he is ready to catch the ball. Next, devlop this picture either in black and white or color. Bake a sheet cake so that you get a rectangular cake. Ice it green. This will be the baseball field. You can also add an extra effect by dyeing coconut green and spreading it top of the cake to give the grass a bit more texture. Then create a baseball diamond on the field by piping white icing. Find something edible to be the bases like vanilla wafers or small sandwich cookies. Anything that is small and can resemble a base. Now that you have your field ready. Cut out the baseball picture of your child. Cut carefully around the body only. You want it to look like an action figure with no background whatsoever. When you have the picture cut out, attach it to a toothpick or short skewer. Finally, stick the picture onto the field where it is most appropriate. If the picture is of your son or daughter batting then stick it at home plate. If the picture is a "glove" picture, stick the picture in the cake at whatever position your child really playes. This cake is adorable and is always a hit no matter when I make it. One time, the team mom on my son's baseball team made this cake but had pictures of the whole entire team. She then placed the pictures in spots on the cake at the exact positions that the boys played. The boys got a kick out of this, and they each got to take their picture home as their individual piece of cake had their picture stuck to the top of it.

Baseball Party Invitation Wording and Ideas

Real Baseball Invitation-You can get so creative when creating your baseball birthday party invitations. One fun invite to send is to type out a note with the following lyrics from the 1927 Jack Norworth song, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."

"Take me out to the ball game,

Take me out with the crowd.

Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,

I don't care if I never get back,

Let me root, root, root for the home team,

If they don't win it's a shame.

For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,

At the old ball game."

After the lyrics, attach this poem:

"Batter up!

It's time for some baseball party fun!

_____________is turning six

And would love for you to come!

Regrets only: ________________________"

Fold this invitation up in a box with a real baseball. With a permanent marker, write the time and place of the party on the baseball. Stick the baseball in the box with the invitation and let your child decorate each of the boxes. Write the name of the guest on the outside of the box. This type of invitation needs to be hand delivered, but what fun each guest will have with their new baseballs.

Baseball Party Invitations

Cute Baseball Stationary Invitation- Check your local copy shop or search online for some cute baseball stationary. Create your own baseball birthday party invitations by printing your invite on this paper. Just simply use the same lyrics and poem from the real baseball invitation above minus the baseball. Don't forget to include the details of your party. You can even print a picture of your child in his baseball uniform on the invitation. This adds a personal touch that parents love and tend to take more notice to than just an ordinary invitation.

Store-Bought Invitation- Many party stores and discount stores have very cute baseball birthday party invitations to choose from. This is the easiest invitations to send out on your part. There's nothing wrong with sending store-bought invitations and making your life a little easier. (:
