Another great party theme for toddlers is a Barney birthday party. What is
the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Barney? For me, it is
the color purple and dinosaurs (friendly ones of course).
Toddlers and preschoolers need simplicity to have the most fun at a birthday
party. A Barney theme lends itself very well to this.
If you are giving a this party for a girl, you could have a purple party. My daughter is all about any shade of color that is close to pink. Purple comes in at a close second. The possibilities are endless when it comes to what you could do at a purple Barney party.
If you are giving this party for a boy, you could have a fun dinosaur party. Dinosaur parties don't have to be scary.
Here are some ideas for both a purple Barney party and a fun Barney dinosaur birthday party .
Cooking with Barney- It would very hard to cook a recipe with a group of toddlers, but tell them that they are going to cook with Barney. Bring out some cupcakes that do not have icing on them. Have a bowl of red icing and a bowl of blue icing. Ask the guests, "What color is Barney?" Show the kids how Barney can mix a little red icing with a little blue icing to make purple icing. Give each guest a small amount of each color of icing in a little bowl with a plastic spoon. Let the children use the spoon to mix and swirl the two colors together. When each person's icing has turned purple, they can spread it on their cupcake. This can be your birthday cake for the party. Just put some candles on your own child's cupcakes and let her/him blow out candles at this time.
Purple Art with Barney- Show the kids how Barney can mix red and blue paint and make purple paint. Let them mix a little of their own. Give a sheet of large paper with an outline of Barney or other dinosaur. Let them paint away. You will have some of the cutest purple dinosaurs ever. Before the party, string a clothesline from tree to tree. Hang the purple dinosaur pictures on the line to dry and give to the kids as they leave the party.
Pin the Tail on Barney- Just like the traditional "pin the tail on the donkey"; game, just with a Barney poster instead.
Musical Chairs with Barney- Play the traditional musical chairs game, but have Barney be one of the players. Have an adult move Barney around the chairs for you. If you have a cd of Barney music, then you can play that for the music. If not, any kid music will do.
Follow the Leader with Barney- Play follow the leader having Barney be the leader. Have the person who is he leader hold Barney up so that the kids can see him as they are following him.
Where is Barney?- Play hide-and-go-seek, but the person that is "it"; gets to hide Barney and then gives clues to the others that are trying to find Barney.
There are many other activities you can play with this age group
of children. Check out the
toddler birthday party page and the
dinosaur birthday party page for some more fun and easy ideas.
Also, if you decide to do the "Cooking with Barney" activity
above, then the cupcakes could serve as your birthday cake.
The way that you can tie in on of the purple goodies to the Barney theme is by attaching a little note onto the bag that says something like, "I love you! You love me! Thanks for coming to my party!"

It's a Purple Barney Birthday Party!
"I love you!
You love me!
I love Barney.
He's a friend to me!
It's time to celebrate!
My 3rd birthday!
Won't you say
You'll come and play!"
A Barney birthday with a lot of purple color is so much fun for
toddlers. Use any of the above ideas to throw the best
toddler birthday party ever.
