Barney Birthday Party Ideas

Barney Birthday Party

Another great party theme for toddlers is a Barney birthday party. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Barney? For me, it is the color purple and dinosaurs (friendly ones of course). Toddlers and preschoolers need simplicity to have the most fun at a birthday party. A Barney theme lends itself very well to this.

If you are giving a this party for a girl, you could have a purple party. My daughter is all about any shade of color that is close to pink. Purple comes in at a close second. The possibilities are endless when it comes to what you could do at a purple Barney party.

If you are giving this party for a boy, you could have a fun dinosaur party. Dinosaur parties don't have to be scary.

Here are some ideas for both a purple Barney party and a fun Barney dinosaur birthday party .

Keep it Simple Barney Birthday Ideas

  • Simple is best when it comes to a toddler party. Always remember the age of the child at a party such as a Barney birthday party. Keep the activities simple.

  • Focus on your theme- Decide before even start planning the party what party of the Barney theme that you are going to focus on and stick to it. If you are going to focus on the color and have a purple Barney party, then think purple when you are shopping. If you are going to focus on dinosaurs and have a Barney dinosaur party, then think dinosaurs when you shop. Any way you look at it, you will spend less money when you have one particular thing you are focusing on.

  • If you are having a Barney birthday party, make sure that you have a stuffed animal Barney to bring to the party. You can't really have a Barney party without Barney their. The bigger the Barney, the better. If you are really creative, you could make a life size Barney cut-out to put by your front door.

Barney Birthday Party Games and Activities

The theme of a Barney show is always one that teaches a moral lesson and has a group of friends working together. Why not incorporate this into your party? When planning the party activities, think of things that your guests could work together on and enjoy together. A very important thing that you must remember at a Barney birthday party is to always have Barney at the activity that you are doing. Take a Barney stuffed animal with you to each activity. Young children really get into this. Here are some fun activities for your party:

Cooking with Barney- It would very hard to cook a recipe with a group of toddlers, but tell them that they are going to cook with Barney. Bring out some cupcakes that do not have icing on them. Have a bowl of red icing and a bowl of blue icing. Ask the guests, "What color is Barney?" Show the kids how Barney can mix a little red icing with a little blue icing to make purple icing. Give each guest a small amount of each color of icing in a little bowl with a plastic spoon. Let the children use the spoon to mix and swirl the two colors together. When each person's icing has turned purple, they can spread it on their cupcake. This can be your birthday cake for the party. Just put some candles on your own child's cupcakes and let her/him blow out candles at this time.

Purple Art with Barney- Show the kids how Barney can mix red and blue paint and make purple paint. Let them mix a little of their own. Give a sheet of large paper with an outline of Barney or other dinosaur. Let them paint away. You will have some of the cutest purple dinosaurs ever. Before the party, string a clothesline from tree to tree. Hang the purple dinosaur pictures on the line to dry and give to the kids as they leave the party.

Pin the Tail on Barney- Just like the traditional "pin the tail on the donkey"; game, just with a Barney poster instead.

Musical Chairs with Barney- Play the traditional musical chairs game, but have Barney be one of the players. Have an adult move Barney around the chairs for you. If you have a cd of Barney music, then you can play that for the music. If not, any kid music will do.

Follow the Leader with Barney- Play follow the leader having Barney be the leader. Have the person who is he leader hold Barney up so that the kids can see him as they are following him.

Where is Barney?- Play hide-and-go-seek, but the person that is "it"; gets to hide Barney and then gives clues to the others that are trying to find Barney.

There are many other activities you can play with this age group of children. Check out the toddler birthday party page and the dinosaur birthday party page for some more fun and easy ideas.

Barney Food ideas

Deciding what type of food to have at a Barney birthday party is easy, just make everything you fix be the color purple. Here are some ideas for food for you to consider:

  • purple seedless grapes (cut up for small children)

  • grape juice or purple kool-aide

  • Make sugar cut-out cookies in the shape of all of the letters of the alphabet. Ice them with purple icing.

  • peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with grape jelly

Barney Cake Ideas

For a cake, just make a sheet cake and make it completely purple-different shades purple. If you can find a Barney candle or a little Barney figurine, that would be so cute on top of the cake. Of course, if you find cake decorating enjoyable, you could always make a Barney-shaped cake.

Also, if you decide to do the "Cooking with Barney" activity above, then the cupcakes could serve as your birthday cake.

Barney Birthday Party Favor Ideas

The possibilities for party favors to give your guests at your Barney birthday party are endless. Anything purple goes. However, you want to be able to tie it into the Barney theme as well. If you can find purple loot bags, that would be ideal. If however, you cannot find a solid colored bag, then I would give out just generic "Happy Birthday" bags or Barney themed bags full of anything purple that you can think of. Some suggestions are purple play dough, a packet of purple kool-aide, a purple pencil, a purple toothbrush, a purple balloon (only if appropriate for the age of the child- Children under 3 should never be given balloons without adult supervision.), purple nail polish for older girls, purple play jewelry, and/or a purple Matchbox toy car. Your choices are endless at a purple party.

The way that you can tie in on of the purple goodies to the Barney theme is by attaching a little note onto the bag that says something like, "I love you! You love me! Thanks for coming to my party!"

If you want to get creative, you could try making your own. You can just use solid purple paper with a picture of Barney on it or even a piece of computer stationary that has a Crayola colors theme would be appropriate.
