Babys First Birthday Gift Ideas

Your child's first birthday is such a special time, and your babys first birthday gift should fit the occasion.

In our home, there are some birthdays that just seem very special. For us, it is the 1st, 5th, 10th, 13th, 16th, and 21st birthdays. I don't know why, but there is just such a special feeling when these years come. Don't get me wrong, every birthday is special, but these years tug at my heart more than others for some reason.

When each of my children turned one, my husband and I both felt that our gift should be one that would last a lifetime. We wanted to give them something that would mean so much to them when they got older and had kids of their own.

When both of boys turned one, we gave them each a rocking horse. These come in all different shapes and sizes. One of my boys got a handmade wooden rocking horse that made a galloping sound when rocked back and forth. We gave our other son a rocking horse that was more like a stuffed horse that rocked back and forth. When my kids grew out of these toys, we wrapped them up and stored them in the attic. Now when they get married and have children of their own, they will be able to to pass them on to their kids.

When our daughter turned one, we couldn't find a rocking horse that was pink enough so we decided to go with a doll that was special and could be passed on to her daughter one day. We chose to go with the American Girl Bitty Baby birthday doll. This doll still sits on her bed today. I can't wait until she has a daughter of her own and she is able to pass it along.

When we put much thought into what we give our children on these special milestone birthdays, we are able to make memories that truly do last a lifetime and carry over to the next generation.
